The Naked Truth by Vi Keeland: Release Blitz Review

Blurb:

It was just a typical Monday.

Until the big boss asked me to make the pitch for a prospective new client.

After two years on shaky ground at work because of my screw up, an opportunity to impress the senior partners was just what I needed.

Or so I thought…

Until I walked into the conference room and collided with the man I was supposed to pitch.

My coffee spilled, my files tumbled to the ground, and I almost lost my balance.

And that was the good part of my day.

Because the gorgeous man crouched down and looking at me like he wanted to eat me alive, was none other than my ex, Gray Westbrook.

A man who I’d only just begun to move on from.

A man who my heart despised—yet my body obviously still had other ideas about.

A man who was as charismatic and confident as he was sexy.

Somehow, I managed to make it through my presentation ignoring his intense stare.

Although it was impossible to ignore all the dirty things he whispered into my ear right after I was done.

But there was no way I was giving him another chance, especially now that he was a client…was there?

Michelle's Review:

If you know anything about me at all, you know that I love, love, love me some Vi Keeland. When I even hear talk of a possible release date for a new Vi Keeland book, I clear my schedule for that week in anticipation. And when I get my hands on said book, I hide out from family, friends, etc., hunker down for the long haul, and immerse myself in what I am sure will be a unique story line with wonderfully captivating and insanely enchanting characters, some entertaining and enthralling banter, and lots of laughs. The Naked Truth is more of the same, to a certain extent. While I loved the twist, adored the distinctive story, and enjoyed the book, I didn't quite feel that same magic that I'm used to feeling from one of my very favorite authors.

Normally when I finish a Vi Keeland book I feel all aglow. I feel peaceful and satisfied, a little giddy and a lot love struck. We've all heard and talked about book hangovers from books that strike you so profoundly with sadness or tragedy that you either feel like you can't possibly move forward, or conversely, you feel like you have to jump into something so over the top and fun that you couldn't possibly even remember what it was you just read. And while those type of hangovers are truly meaningful and affecting, it's not all that often that we talk about the best kind of book hangover, the hangover in which you put the book down feeling a warmth radiating from inside you. A hangover that leaves you feeling contented and joyful and just plain glad that you had the chance to read that book. This may be magic that is found few and far between in books, but I can honestly say, I have almost always had this feeling when I've finished a Keeland masterpiece. So, while it may not be particularly fair to hold each and every one of her works to such a high standard, I can't help but do so, and then, unfortunately, feel somewhat disappointed when I just don't get those same feelings from her newest release.

Am I disappointed in the book? No, not at all. As I said, I loved the characters. Layla was smart and funny, independent, and cautious, all things that I love and admire in a good heroine. And as for Gray? Well, let's just say that no matter how much you love him in the beginning, your heart is going to absolutely melt for him in the end. I loved the quirky way in which these two met and how they came to enter each other's life again. And the twist was fantastic. Unexpected, potentially devastating, and at the worst possible time, this is everything you could want in a twist and more.

If I were to compare The Naked Truth to hundreds of other romances out there, I'm sure it would come out somewhere near the top, but when Vi Keeland sets such a high bar for herself, and I have such high hopes and expectations for a story, it's hard not to feel as if something is missing and to regard it quite as highly as some of her other great works that consumed me every step of the way, made me feel a part of the story, touched me, and intoxicated me. A different story with a shocking twist that will keep you glued to the pages, The Naked Truth is good bones, an entertaining read, and a good time.
