Blog Tour w/ Guest Review & Giveaway: Working It (Love by Design #1) by Kendall Ryan

Synopsis:

A story of heart-stopping, toe-curling passion by the New York Times bestselling author of Hard to Love, Resisting Her, and The Impact of You.

Emmy Clarke is out of her depth in New York City’s fashion world, but when she lands a job as an assistant at a modeling agency it seems like the perfect mix of business and pleasure. Working under the notorious Fiona Stone is a nightmare, but there’s one distinct perk: ogling the ridiculously hot male models who parade through the office—particularly rising star Ben Shaw.

Ben is everything Emmy’s not: exquisitely gorgeous, highly paid, and well-traveled. He’s also got more issues than Vogue. Emmy looks after Ben on photo shoots, but she refuses to become another one of his lusting groupies. Ben finds Emmy’s refreshingly real attitude to be surprisingly attractive.

Against a backdrop of the most fashionable cities in the world, casual flirting turns into an illicit affair, but when Ben’s twisted past is revealed, and the bitter Fiona catches wind of their relationship, their careers and hearts are threatened.

Review:

Working It by Kendall Ryan was the first book that I have read by Ms. Ryan and yes, apparently I have been living under a rock. What an introduction to her work! From the first few paragraphs I knew I was in for a wild ride and I was in no way disappointed. The prologue instantly caught my attention and I remained absorbed as the narrative then returns to the events of the past few months and you are left to put together all the pieces of the story as works its way back toward the present.

Ben Shaw is a gorgeous male model who has women lusting after him everywhere he goes. Emmy Clarke is small town southern girl next door type who lands a job as an assistant at Ben’s modeling agency. When Ben’s bookings take him to Paris, Emmy and her boss, Fiona, are not far behind. As Emmy and Ben spend time together both on and off of photo shoots Emmy comes to find that there is certainly more to Ben than just a pretty face. The problem is that Ben has made it well known that he doesn’t do relationships while Emmy isn’t really a one night stand kind of girl, not to mention Fiona’s complicated friendship with Ben and utter disdain for Emmy.

Ben is absolutely swoon-worthy and my newest book crush. He is strikingly good looking with an insane body. He is caring and sensitive, thoughtful and loyal with a stellar sense of humor and a championship filthy mouth. What’s not to love? Emmy is the ideal relatable heroine. She is sweet but doesn’t take too much flack, she is innocent, but daring, she is kind and funny and the kind of girl you would love to have as a friend. She is the opposite of every person Ben is in contact with on a daily basis and quite possibly the opposite of all he has ever known. At the same time she is everything he didn’t know he wanted or needed. Together the two are just the right compliment of naughty and nice, dreamy and down to earth, surreal and real.

The use of a dual point of view with occasional glimpses into Ben thoughts gives you just enough awareness of Ben to really make you fall for him and pull for the relationship despite all the obstacles the two must overcome.

All in all Working It has two captivating main characters, plenty of steam, and a storyline that makes you anxious to see where these two will go from here since we are left with a few loose ends. I know I will be chomping at the bit for the continuation of this story and while I wait I think I may just crawl out from under my rock and find out if all of Kendall Ryan’s books are as enjoyable as this one.

I am a stay at home mother of three small children. I met my husband in high school and we have been together for almost 15 years now. I love to read and whenever I have free time (is there such a thing?) I can always be found with my reader in hand.  I love contemporary and New Adult romance, the more angst the better.  I'm a sucker for a happy ending and cannot pass up a hot rocker read.
