Excerpt:

I opened the door, a smile still on my face, and collided, headfirst, with a wall of muscle.

“Oh, sorry.” I looked up and my heart stopped.

The smell of leather and aftershave filled my nose. I looked up to see a pair of dark brown eyes hooded by long, onyx lashes. I took in the straight nose, the sharp jaw and strong chin. My gaze dropped to the full lips I’d tasted once, on a night eleven years ago.

I’d never seen a face as symmetrical and so beautifully masculine as Easton Greer’s.

Even when he scowled, like he was now, it was a wonder.

He’d gotten even more handsome. How was that possible? He’d transformed from a young man to just a man, man. Rugged and rough and sexy.

“Gemma.” My name came out as a growl in his deep voice and I tore my gaze away from his mouth, taking a step back.

“Hi,” I breathed, the air heavy and thick.

He took a step away, then another, his glare unwavering.

Easton cast his scowl over his shoulder and spotted the Cadillac. “That yours?”

“Yes.”

“You’re staying here.” Not a question. An accusation. If he had it his way, I’d be uninvited.

I lifted my chin. “Yes, I came to see Katherine.”

His jaw ticked. “I thought we’d gotten rid of you years ago.”

Ouch. I guess he was still pissed about that whole sex in his room and waking up to find me gone.

But, good or bad, he hadn’t forgotten me.

Review:

Having been blown away by Runaway Road, I was particularly excited to read Wild Highway, the second installment in Devney Perry’s Runaway Series. My eagerness was partly due to the fact that I will gladly devour anything Devney Perry writes, and partly because I’m more than a little obsessed with second chance romances. I don’t know what it is about them, but they’re often hopelessly romantic and gut-wrenchingly emotional, thanks to the already-established history between the main characters. In Wild Highway, former lovers are reunited and given another chance at happiness, but the journey to get there is riddled with roadblocks and potential heartache.

After selling her successful company and leaving behind her fast-paced, superficial life in Boston, Gemma Lane sets off to complete her friend, Londyn’s, mission to make a special delivery to an old friend in California. Much like Londyn, though, her road trip doesn’t go quite as planned. A whim finds Gemma stopping in Montana to visit Katherine, a friend that she left behind in search of a better life. Her effort to make amends also includes a meeting with her old flame, Easton Greer. Both the man and the ranch he runs hold memories that are dredged up upon her return, bringing their unfinished business and lingering feelings to the forefront of their tension-filled reunion.

For Gemma, the narrative is a journey of self-discovery and reconnecting with the wild, carefree person she used to be. Despite the initial resentment and animosity stewing between them, Easton is largely responsible for Gemma’s transformation from the polished workaholic of her adulthood to the happy, adventurous person she was when she first meet him. As Gemma chips away at the anger and bitterness that Easton held onto after she left, he’s busy stripping away the armor she’s built around herself as a result of her reluctance to trust others and display vulnerability. The process is painstaking, overwhelmingly emotional, and intensely poignant. The pain and anguish that’s evoked not just from dredging up Gemma’s past, but from the complicated relationship she has with Easton, wreaked havoc with my emotions, but I loved every single minute.

I could probably count on one hand the amount of authors whose books have made me cry, but something about Devney Perry’s writing resonates with me in a way that’s incredibly profound. The complexities of her characters and the intimate and passionate love stories she crafts have kept me captivated by her books, but she’s truly outdone herself with the Runaway Series. I gave Runaway Road 6 Stars because there wasn’t a single thing that could’ve made me love the book more. Wild Highway is just as amazing, if not more so, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t give it 6 Stars as well.

This Time Tomorrow (Phenomenal Fate #2) by Tessa Bailey: ARC Review

Blurb:

Roksana, heiress to the vampire slayer throne, has performance anxiety.

She's supposed to kill Elias, but so far she's only succeeded in maxing out his credit card. Now her failure to stake the brooding vampire has sent her back to Moscow in disgrace to face her mother's wrath. Expecting punishment by death, she's given a rare reprieve. She now has three tasks to complete, the last of which is to finally kill Elias. She will not fail this time.

If only the memories of one magical evening--back when Elias was human--would stop holding her back. He claims to have forgotten that night. Why can't she?

Three years ago, Elias was a SWAT team member on a guys' weekend in Vegas. Playing poker and minding his own business, his life changed forever when a captivating blonde strolled past his table in a light-up bra. He followed Roksana as if compelled, his very bones demanding he do so, his soul resonating with the belief she would be important to him. Always. That turned out to be a vast understatement--and nothing has changed.

Roksana embarks on her mission, determined to win back her mother's approval, but when an astonishing truth emerges in the eleventh hour, will her stake pierce the very heart that beats in her honor? Or will love triumph over duty?

About the Author:

Thank you for your interest in my books! I'm Tessa and I live in the crazy, loud, overcrowded borough of Brooklyn, New York. I love it here. This city is a constant source of inspiration, which is why I've decided to set my most recent books in the Line of Duty Series here.

I moved to New York when I was eighteen, the day after I graduated high school. Threw my suitcase in the back of a Chevrolet Cavalier and drove across the country to find my adventure. I'm still finding it, little by little.

Thank you for being a part of it.

Yvette's Review:

If you thought a relationship between a vampire and a human was forbidden, I’ve got two words: vampire slayer (think the badassessedness and snark of Buffy, but with a Russian accent). In Reborn Yesterday, Tessa Bailey teased us with the possibility of a romance between a certain brooding vampire and the tough-as-nails slayer he was oh-so-clearly pining over. In This Time Tomorrow, Elias and Roksana get their own story, and it’s everything you could want in a forbidden romance, with drama, conflict, and plenty of delicious sexual tension. If you thought Reborn Yesterday was sexy, swoon-worthy, and heartfelt, prepare yourself, because Tessa Bailey doesn’t pull any punches with This Time Tomorrow.

What I didn’t expect, but was pleasantly surprised to discover, was that there was so much more history between Roksana and Elias than I could’ve imagined just from reading Reborn Yesterday. Turns out there’s a reason not just for Roksana’s seemingly unprovoked hostility towards the hulking, growly vampire, but for Elias’s silent, yet palpable longing for the temperamental slayer. I won’t spoil anything by elaborating, but to say that they have unfinished business is a serious understatement. It’s this unfinished business that keeps drawing them together over the course of This Time Tomorrow, strengthening their already-intense connection.

What makes this pairing so interesting is that Roksana and Elias couldn’t be more different. Roksana is wild and impulsive, allowing every thought to pass from her brain to her mouth unfiltered, whereas Elias is gruff and more reserved, keeping his emotions closely guarded. Elias holds himself back, but Roksana slowly chips away at his restraint until his passion is unleashed with a single-minded determination (of course, a mysterious potion might have sped things up in that regard). Stark differences aside, these two have a raw, primal chemistry that becomes this pure, unadulterated need for each other. Roksana drives Elias to become this possessive, obsessive otherworldly creature. The transformation is indescribably sexy and exemplifies why I love paranormal romance so much. Their romance is quite simply transcendent.

A forbidden romance between a vampire and a slayer is undoubtedly a captivating premise, but it’s the emotional intimacy between Elias and Roksana as well as their scorching hot, downright dirty sexual connection that makes This Time Around such a memorable read. With the introduction of new conflicts and new characters, This Time Around delves further into the world of the supernatural, adding new elements of danger and suspense. The narrative also sets the stage for what’s coming next in the Phenomenal Fate Series, and I for one, can’t wait for Tucker’s story.

Blurb:

Half-angel Trinity and her bonded gargoyle protector, Zayne, have been working with demons to stop the apocalypse while avoiding falling in love. The Harbinger is coming…but who or what is it? All of humankind may fall if Trinity and Zayne can’t win the race against time as dark forces gather.

As tensions rise, they must stay close together and patrol the DC streets at night, seeking signs of the Harbinger, an entity that is killing Wardens and demons with no seeming rhyme or reason. Forbidden to be with each other, Zayne and Trinity fight their feelings and turn to unusual sources for help—the demon Roth and his cohorts. But as deaths pile up and they uncover a sinister plot involving the local high school and endangering someone dear to Zayne, Trin realizes she is being led…herded…played for some unknown end. As anger builds and feelings spiral out of control, it becomes clear that rage may be the ruin of them all.

Yvette's Review:

After the action-packed, revelatory final chapters of Storm and Fury, I was both excited and nervous to discover what would come next in the second installment in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Harbinger Series. Rage and Ruin picks up where Storm and Fury left off, leaving Trinity to deal with the fallout of her Protector, Misha’s, betrayal, as well as her newfound connection to Zayne. The threat of their previously unknown assailant, the Harbinger, is at the forefront of their daily lives and looming ever closer, but there’s still much Zayne and Trinity don’t know about who or what they could potentially come up against.

As Trinity’s new Protector, Zayne’s life is inextricably tied to hers. Armed with the knowledge that a mysterious enemy plans to bring forth the end of days, Zayne and Trinity are not only training for an imminent battle, but are busy attempting to piece together the missing puzzle pieces that would reveal the Harbinger’s plan. Throw in the unwelcome knowledge that the prospect of a romance between them is suddenly forbidden, and you have one seriously complicated situation.

After finishing Storm and Fury, I had so many questions. While Rage and Ruin answers some of those questions, even more questions took their place! To avoid spoilers, I won’t say more about the plot, but if, like me, you were hoping for progress on the romance front, Rage and Ruin doesn’t disappoint. Zayne and Trinity continue communicating via snarky, argumentative banter that’s rife with sarcasm and sexual tension. Sooo much sexual tension. As much as they try to fight their growing attraction, their budding romance is a constant source of angst and frustration. Their feelings for each other are like a roller coaster, with enough twists and turns and highs and lows to have my emotions spiraling out of control.

With a plot jam-packed with action, danger, and suspense, characters that make a lasting impression, no matter their level of importance, and a forbidden romance that’s a level of epic that only Jennifer L. Armentrout can deliver, Rage and Ruin is an unforgettable sequel to Storm and Fury. It might even be...dare I say it...better than its predecessor. And with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger ending that will leave you with the mother of all book hangovers, the author ensured Rage and Ruin is a book I’m not likely to stop thinking about any time soon.
