I have a not-so-secret confession to make: I’m a wimp when it comes to angst. I actively avoid angsty books if I can help it, instead preferring lighthearted rom-coms. It’s not often that I’ll knowingly pick up a book that has the potential to crush my heart and obliterate my emotions but each time Colleen Hoover comes out with a new release, I willingly put myself through the emotional wringer. I don’t think anything could’ve prepared me for All Your Perfects, though. This book gives new meaning to the term “tearjerker”. Emotionally devastating, gut-wrenching, thought-provoking, and breathtakingly beautiful, All Your Perfects is a brilliantly written, insightful, and unconventional love story from Colleen Hoover.
To say that All Your Perfects is about a marriage in trouble would be an understatement. But to get into the whys and hows of the situation would be complicated. In short, the narrative tells the story of Quinn and Graham, a couple who are at a crossroads in their marriage. Theirs is a relationship told in two timelines: Then and Now. The past and the present. Happiness and heartache. Hope and despair. Passion and disinterest. The two timelines are a glaring contrast to each other – one telling of a carefree and exhilarating budding romance, and the other chronicling their unresolved issues, hurt feelings, and pent-up frustrations.
