Blog Tour w/ Review & Giveaway: The Pairing (The Proposition #3) by Katie Ashley

Blurb:

A Companion Novel to The Proposition and The Proposal

After her former boyfriend left her pregnant and alone, Megan McKenzie swore off men. She spent the last eighteen months focused solely on her son, Mason, along with finishing nursing school at the top of her class. Although she’s not ready to complicate her life with a long-term relationship, a nice no-strings attached hook-up is just what she needs. At her godson, Noah’s, baptism, she finds the perfect candidate in the soft-spoken godfather, Pesh Nadeen. After all, the widower could use a good time too. But after drinking too much, the night doesn’t end the way she thought it would. Forced to leave Pesh’s house through a walk of shame, Megan hopes to never, ever see him again.

For Pesh Nadeen, the very sight of Megan sends him into an emotional tailspin. Since she reminds him too much of what he has lost, he wants to be out of her sight…at first. But the more he gets to know her, there's something about the diminutive blonde that causes his protective side to go into overdrive, and he finds himself wanting more. When Megan is assigned to work in his ER to complete her nursing clinicals, he sees it as fate, but she’s having no part of it. She only wants a physical relationship while he wants far more.

What happens next is a sexy game of cat and mouse to see who will break first or if both of them will eventually get more than they ever bargained for.

Review:

I’ve read a number of Katie Ashley’s books and I’ve always felt that she’s a consistently good storyteller with the incredible ability to create memorable characters that inspire a certain degree of affection and devotion, particularly with those characters in book series that I’ve gotten to know at length. After falling in love with Emma Harrison and Aidan Fitzgerald in The Proposition and The Proposal, I was thrilled to return to their fictional world via two new protagonists in the spinoff novel, The Pairing. At first glance, Alpesh Nadeen and Megan McKenzie seem to be an unusual coupling, mingling two contrasting personalities with two different cultures, but the more I got to know their characters, the more they made sense together. I appreciated that Katie Ashley took the time to develop Pesh and Megan's characters first as individuals and then as a couple, not rushing the romance between the two, but allowing readers to savor the journey.

I will admit that before starting The Pairing, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Pesh. To me, he was “the other guy” – the one who came between Aiden and Emma and offered himself up as a contender for Emma’s affection. While reading The Pairing, however, Pesh managed to win me over fairly quickly with his refreshing qualities that set him apart from the typical romance hero. I was initially taken aback by Pesh's more reserved and gentlemanly manner, which made me feel as if I was watching an episode of Downton Abbey. His more formal behavior was definitely a fun and exciting contrast to Megan, who’s spunky, candid, and adventurous, unwilling to commit to the serious relationship that Pesh desires. Like Megan, I soon learned not to try to categorize Pesh as a certain "type" of guy. Pesh's words and actions constantly surprised me and I enjoyed not knowing what to expect from him.

The Pairing is a perfect companion novel to The Proposition and The Proposal, serving as a sort of extended epilogue for characters we have already gotten to know and love in previous books. Not only does the story follow Pesh and Megan's relationship, but it gives us a glimpse into Emma and Aiden's future as well and I loved how the lives of all these characters entwined together into one all-encompassing narrative. The overall effect is overwhelming sweet and satisfying and I couldn't have hoped for a better ending.
